Due to Pokemon and a pirated copy of RPG Maker, when I was about 12 years old I had dreamt up a life of making games in Japan.
And owning a pet Bulbasaur.
Since then, things happened, events took place, decisions were made, life was lived, failure was had and success was realised. My journey to achieve my childhood dream of becoming a game programmer in Japan has finally come to an end. On Monday, I had my final interview for the game programmer job mentioned in my last post. A closer look at Assassin’s Creed 3’s protagonist: Connor.
That is all.
Lately I’ve been deprived of my PS3 due to the lack of TV. But I’ve been getting by. Been keeping myself busy. Been playing some of my old, stagnant PC/Mac games. I’d much prefer my PS3, but in this case something is better than nothing and I’ve got good friends to play with.
However, a particular franchise has my geek-rocket flying higher than a grandfather on the blue pills sporting a 9 hour horn. Which you ask? Assassins Creed of course! Over the past week (or two?) details about the new Assassins Creed 3 (set to be released at the end of October, 2012) have been splooging out all over the internet, and boy does it look sexy.
I believe that Assassins Creed: Revelations was wonderful, however it juuuust placed it’s pinky toe over the “we-need-something-new” line – which considering we were 4 instalments into the franchise is pretty damn good. However, Assassins Creed 3 needs to change things up much more than it has before. The same “wait for a counter attack” (whilst in battle) and “running around on roofs” (whilst not in battle) formulae just won’t work again after 4 instalments.
Luckily, Ubisoft are a clever bunch and have things under control. (more…)
…or Undisclosed Trigger?
Am I the only one that thinks of Chrono Trigger during the intro of Undisclosed Desires by Muse? It’s those weird plucked string things…

This is a faux-Game Review. I’m not a critical writer, in fact, I’m terrible at it. But I am using Gravity Release Me as a canvas for me to break out and try out new things – this is an example of that. Please don’t take this as authority, however I would love to hear any and all feedback!
I love Assassins Creed. The entire franchise is the epitome of what I adore in video games. It’s cinematic, innovative, large, narrative, stimulating, immersive, fun – it’s the total package. I’m not usually a franchise fanatic, but I am with Assassins Creed all due to the fact that every new major instalment in the franchise offers a fresh, yet familiar, experience – even though it’s another instalment of the same game.
I recently just finished the newest instalment, Assassins Creed: Revelations. The story was beautiful. The gameplay as amazing as ever. Graphically it was wonderful.
Although, there are some negatives, and so I’ll get them out of the way first so I can finish on a good note as the game ultimately did leave a deliciously good taste in my mouth once I set down the controller.
Initially, as an Assassins Creed fanboy, I thought to myself:
“Assassins Creed: Revelations, you can do no wrong”
As it would happen, it can. (more…)
Skyrim is out, and I’ve decided to wait till I finish Assassins Creed: Revelations (which comes out today) before I play it.
However, last Friday I decided to start playing Shadow of the Colossus and figured I’d have it finished in a day or two – I’ve played it before, it isn’t too long. But I didn’t get as much time as I’d hoped to play it. Now it’s Assassins Creed day, and I haven’t finished Shadows.
Now I’ll pick up AC:R today and won’t play it till I finish Shadows. Which also means I won’t be able to hunt down all the trophies in Shadows. Or I CAN hunt down the trophies but that means delaying AC:R. Which means delaying Skyrim. (more…)
So, this gaming season is by far one of the biggest seasons known to mankind. Yes. Mankind.
Huge, blockbuster titles are being hurled at the poor gaming community (and i mean poor in every sense of the word). What do we buy? What do we play first? Do we get a 2nd job to accommodate this mammoth of a season?
Now, I say “we” as though I speak for my fellow gaming comrades – but, really it’s just what I feel and don’t wish to say “I”, thus placing myself as the topic marker – a responsibility i’m not willing to take due to completely random and irrational reasonings.
So! WE are being swamped with blockbuster games.
The dilemma in my corner of these times of international hardships begins November 11th: the release date of Skyrim.
Woo! Yeah! Let’s pickup the Skyrim pre-orders, run home, play it, take days off work, play it some more, 6 months later we’re 0.0001% of the way through the game! YEAH! SKYRIM! (more…)
So the other day my room mate and I hit up a multiplayer game of Battlefield 3. But, EA’s online capabilities weren’t very… online.
So I suggested Ace of Spades to my room mate.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“Awesome.” I replied.
If old-school Counter-Strike lost it’s shop system in a horrific war-time incident, then mated with the much younger, ripe, blocky Minecraft, Ace of Spades would be the bundle of joy emerging from the female of the two’s lady parts (ie. Minecrafts vagina). And thankfully, Ace of Spades inherited the “It’s much more fun than it looks” recessive gene from its mother. (more…)
I used to run Road2Japan.com, but have since come to the realisation that the person who started that blog in 2008 and the person now running it are 2 very different people – a lot of growing up can be done in 3 years! Road2Japan.com was also created to focus on my study abroad to Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan – however my time at Kansai Gaidai has been and gone. Try as I might to continue blogging at Road2Japan, I can’t help but feel that whatever I do or write is no longer relevant. There were restrictions/expectations, created by myself and my readers, that at Road2Japan my posts should be about, well, Japan. There are times where somethings happened, or a thought crosses my mind, or I learn something and think to myself: “I should blog about that! … oh wait, that really doesn’t belong on Road2Japan…”.
